It is my hope that through this class I will be able to establish a strong foundation for my future in teaching. I have seen a few new teachers, namely my mother when she started teaching, struggle to gain footing. I'm hoping that I can minimize that struggle as much as possible for myself, even though I know that it is inevitable. At least through taking this class and classes like it I'm giving myself a fighting chance with as much knowledge as possible behind me.
Due to the lockdown, all of my schooling over the past five or so years has been inseparable from technology of all forms. Online work through Teams and Google Classroom was unavoidable in 2020, and a lot of teachers never stopped using those platforms, especially to help out students who have missed classes. All of my clubs have used Remind or GroupMe to keep contact, some even urging members to follow their Facebook and Instagram accounts. My year mates, and the years around us, would all attest to our skill and/or familiarity with a very wide variety of technologies, both those used through our school and those used for our own interest. I must say the largest tragedy to me is the necessity of having an account or paying for a service for many archives and regularly published papers.
Personally, I have always had an interest in literature and literary analysis. I've attempted to bond with some people I've met throughout the years, but I fear these bonds have not lasted. I do however have a few people in my family who have experience or interest in this subject and also in teaching. A lot of my time interacting with my hobby online has been in search of new material to read or other people who have read the things I enjoy. I interact with fandom almost daily and have even posted my own writing online for critique. Other than that, I have also made Pinterest boards for any given writing project and asked my in-person friends what they think of any variety of things we have read or written. On occasion I have even been known to take courses on Khan Academy purely for my own enjoyment.
Hi Angel, I enjoyed reading your blog post and getting to know a little about you! I think its smart of you to take this course in order to prepare you as much as possible before you enter the teaching field. Although I am not completely certain on if I truly wish to pursue a teaching career, I am hoping this course provides me some clarity while also providing me with helpful resources I can use if I do wish to follow through with this career. To move on to your second paragraph, I agree that the lockdown really made classroom learning rely heavily on technology. My first year of high school was solely online, we never even received one piece of paper I think that whole year. I am somewhat thankful for that experience since it made my skills with technology stronger, but I still wish I was able to go through a high school experience that was similar to the people before me. I also have a strong interest in literature and literary analysis, its mainly why I chose to be an English major so we have that in common. I think its so cool that you continue to educate yourself by taking online courses on Khan Academy on your own accord, I really wish I had the motivation to do that. Overall, I really enjoyed reading your blog and I hope the rest of your semester goes well!
ReplyDeleteHello Angel! I like how you stated you were taking this class to further your knowledge and prepare yourself before going into teaching. I agree that online platforms have been consistently used since lockdown and most clubs I have been in have only used GroupMe or Remind as well. I enjoyed learning more about you through your Blog post and also enjoyed reading about your interest in literature and literary analysis.
